II. Display Module (SDM) 2.0

SDM, the core component of Spatial Information COMponents (SICOM):

• Functions as the top-level executive,
• Provides access to and control over subsidiary modules, which will subsequently be referred to as SICOM Plug-Ins (SPI),
• Exports services to clients.

More precisely, SDM can be deployed as a stand-alone independent program (SDM_SA), or as a server (SDM_Server) that provides GIS services to a client application (referred to as Client). Technically, SDM exposes several Microsoft COM objects. The Application (AP) Developer can configure the capability and functionality of SDM using SP.
