IV-7. Edit (when Composition view .plf is active)
Before loading any object into the composition view, most menu items are inactive, except Insert New Ole Object, Insert new Plot Item, Insert New Graphic Plot Item, and Insert New Metafile Plot Item. If there is an object on the system clipboard, menu items, Paste, Paste Special, and Paste Link will also appear.
Paste pastes the object from the clipboard
Paste Special a dialog box appears (Fig. IV.4) that shows the source of the object on the clipboard.

Paste Link Pastes the clipboard object while linking the object to the original file where the object was created
Insert New Ole Object Allows you to either create a new OLE object to insert, or open an existing file. An Insert Object dialog box (Fig. IV. 5) will appear. After OK is clicked, the selected object will be inserted into the .plf view.

After an object is inserted and selected (by clicking the object), the following menu items become active under Edit:Cut cuts the selected object
Copy copies the selected object
Clone does not work properly at present due to a known bug that will be fixed in a future release.
Change Icon changes the icon of the selected object
Properties provides file information and view options
Delete deletes the selected object
Delete all deletes all objects
In addition to the above items, a menu item that refers to the inserted OLE object appears under Insert New Ole Object. In general, this item will allow the user to bring up the application corresponding to the selected OLE.
Insert Plot Item
Inserts a a square frame, which can be filled with different colors and with
various size borders by using the property sheet (Fig. IV 6). When this
option is selected, menu items similar to those of Insert
New Ole Object become active under Edit.

Insert New Graphic View Plot Item
Inserts the entire view from the selected .des window. Clicking on this item
will bring up an Insert New Graphic View Plot Item
dialog box (Fig. IV.7). The Available Views
sub-window shows the available .des views. Select the name of the view and
hit OK; the graphic view will appear in the
.plf view window.

After the inserted object is selected, menu items similar to those under Insert New Ole Object become active under Edit. Clicking Properties, Fig. IV.8 appears:

The General page provides current size information and the options to create different size borders and different background color fills. The Graphic View page (Fig. 9) shows the controls for Viewport and Scale. Viewport is the entire window area of the .des window. Type in a new scale value, and the map is displayed at the given scale. Un-check Display Preview, and the displayed map is symbolized by an "X".

Insert New Meta Plot Item
Inserts an existing CARIS Meta
plot file, .plt, which has been created using another CARIS software such
as Plot Composer . Selecting the object yields similar menu items as in
the previous cases.
